Jamaica is expected to come alive with the celebration of culture for Jamaica 55, the Independence Festival Launch took place at the Courtleigh Auditorium last week.
Mr. Orville Hall Interim President of the JCDC says that Independence celebration is ‘an occasion to reflect on our culture’, meanwhile Minister Grange says ‘Independence continues to be emotional and it is taking charge of our destiny while creating hope and pride’ She says we have done well in our 55 years of independence and the country should be proud.
It was also announced that Juliet Holness is the new patron for the festival queen competition. The Minister also announced that a special commemorative album will be created with past festival songs, she also indicated that other songs which did not win will be included on the album.
The theme for ‘Jamaica 55’ is ‘Celebrating Jamaicans at Home and Abroad’.
Independence will also be celebrated through fashion, under the theme ‘Wear di Vibes… It’s Jamaica 55’. Persons are encouraged to “wear something black and embellish it with a touch of green, gold and red” throughout the season.
