Jamaica Appoints New Ambassador to Washington
Minister of Foreign Affairs AJ Nicholson today announced that His Excellency Ralph Thomas will be Jamaica’s new Ambassador to Washington DC. Ambassador Thomas is currently Jamaica’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, a post he has held since 2013.
“Ambassador Thomas served in China during an important time for Jamaica/China relations, especially in the area of economic development, and ensured the continuation and strengthening of this relationship through the development of key initiatives”, Minister Nicholson stated.
The former University of the West Indies – Mona School of Business and Management Senior Teaching Fellow has experience in multinational banking and trade finance, serving as Vice-President of the Bank of New York for 22 years. The Ambassador formerly served as director of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), the Jamaica Financial Services Authority (JIFSA), the National Investment Board/National Investment Fund (NIB/NIF) and the Mental Health Association of Westchester, New York. In addition to specialised training in Financial Analysis and Policy by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Institute and Export-Import (EXIM) Bank Certification, Ambassador Thomas holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the West Indies (1976) and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Columbia University (1990). Ambassador Thomas is expected to assume duties in early September.
