No Election This Year Says PM
Prime Minister and President of the People’s National Party Portia Simpson-Miller gave the clearest indication yet this evening that there will not be a general election this year.
Simpson-Miller was addressing gathering of comrades in Black River as part of the party’s islandwide tour. Mrs. Simpson-Miller who arrived at the gathering during the presentation of her Finance Minister, Peter Phillips was greeted with great jubilation and fanfare by the crowd. When it was time for her to address the crowd, she called for unity in the party. She further stated that young peope who have been enumerated for the first time must be allowed to vote as “it is their right”.
It was at this juncture that Mrs Simpson-Miller indicated that voters will not go to the poll based on the current voters list which would indicate that there will not be an election this year. The new voters list with over 37,000 new voters will be published on November 30, 2015.
The Prime Minister and party President then charged her MPs to not waste time and to “trim their lamps as the hour is at hand”.
