Government and Opposition Clash Over Domain Names

The Governing People’s National Party and the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party are this morning in a battle of words over domain names.

It was discovered yesterday that the Jamaica Labour Party bought the domain name  The PNP in a release says that “The party views the JLP’s actions as immoral and unethical and reflective of a party that is bankrupt of ideas that will use the immense popularity of the prime minister to seek to shore up its flagging brand.” However the JLP in a release issued a short while ago says that the move was in response to the PNP’s decision to use their tag line from poverty to prosperity to create a website.

According to the JLP “the move to purchase the website is a cowardly act of desperation to gain traction and relevance to drive traffic to their (PNP) failed policies.”

The party says that the tagline “From Poverty to Prosperity” was first used by then Prime Minister Bruce Golding in 2011 and thereafter by Leader of the Opposition Andrew Holness in his budget presentation. It says that “although PNP MP Dayton Campbell has been desperately seeking to attach himself to the slogan since his own use of it in Parliament, the line has been associated with the JLP and its ‘Prosperity’ campaign”
