Police Caution Social Media Users Threating Lisa Hanna
Inspector Warren Williams head of the Cybercrimes Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force is warning persons that it is a criminal offence to make threats on social media.
His warning comes after threats have been made on social media against Former Youth and Culture Minister Lisa Hanna. Yesterday Miss Hanna said some songs by dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel should be banned from the airwaves.
She also made suggestions on Nationwide 90 FM on Friday during an hour long interview, she said that Kartel’s music be banned from the public airwaves because of the negative impact it is having on the society.
Since then, some social media users have issued death threats and have promised to withdraw their political support.
Inspector Williams said persons should be know that they could be charged under the Cybercrimes Act if they use technology to intimidate others.
