St. Thomas’ Development High on Agenda says PM
PNP President and Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is adamant that her next administration will be Stepping Up the Progress more for St. Thomas. Mrs. Simpson-Miller reminded a captive Morant Bay audience that the PNP has always been the Party to develop the country’s infrastructure – as evident with the construction of all the country’s major highways that will now continue with the building of the eastern extension of the South Coast Highway, which will run through St. Thomas.
Simpson Miller also said that 1500 residents of St. Thomas have gained employed to Agro-Parks and the output from these agricultural projects in import substitution of Onions and other crops.
She also took comfort in the number of titles for houses she has handed out to sugar workers in St. Thomas. According to Mrs. Simpson-Miller, some 400 homes have been delivered under this current administration and plans are in place to hand over 200 more.
“That is progress. This is development for the parish of St. Thomas,” Mrs. Simpson-Miller said.
Meanwhile, the country’s Finance Minister and PNP Campaign Director is also expressing optimism about the PNP President vision for St. Thomas.
“There is always need for additional economic development…and we are working on this so that you can have first class access to connectivity via roads, internet highway and much more. Up wi a guh! Wi a step up the progress,” stated the Dr. Phillips.
According to Dr. Phillips, there is already interest in the spinoff from the highway.
“Already the Minister of Tourism is showing potential tourist sites for those who want to build in St. Thomas,” he said.
