Are you a makeup lover, but afraid to wear your makeup on those hot and humid days? Would you like to wear your makeup without the fear of it slowly melting down your face? In this week’s post you will learn how to sweatproof/waterproof your makeup. After all every foundation needs a good foundation.

Sweatproof Makeup Tips

Step 1:

Prime your face-The primer acts as a barrier between the skin and your foundation, while controlling oil and giving the foundation something to hold on to. Thus, allowing the makeup to last longer. Some of my favourite primers include: E.I.F, Rimmel Stay Matte and Maybelline Age Rewind Primer.

Step 2:

Seal your brows– Use a brow pencil or powder that is at least 1-2 shades lighter than your natural brow colour or surprising your hair colour. Dark brows can be fairly unforgiving, so choose your colours wisely. To seal your brows you will need a brow gel, this will hold the hairs in place for hours.

Step 3:

Prime your lids- To prepare the lid for eyeshadow, you will need an eyeshadow primer/base (Once again, this will provide something for the shadow to hold on to). Using a cream or wax base shadow will work best in water; bear in mind that wax is insoluble to water. In addition to holding your eyeshadow in place, the primer also allows your eyeshadow to pop.

Step 4:

Waterproof Eyeliner and Mascara – Waterproof is the way to go on a hot and humid day.  If you are a lover of fake lashes, go ahead and add a second coat of waterproof mascara to your falsies.

Step 5:

Setting Powder– Your foundation will never stay in place without it being set. To set your foundation, you will need a loose powder, pressed powder or a powder foundation.  Apply lightly all over the face in a dabbing motion. Avoid using a sweeping motion (unless the foundation is already set into the skin).

Final seal– Finally to lock that foundation unto the skin, grab yourself a setting spray! Use at least 3-4 pumps and evenly distribute the product all over the face. This will hold your makeup in place all day long. My favorites are MAC Fix Plus, Ben Nye Final Seal, NYX and L’Oreal Infallible Setting Spray.

Quick Tip

Make sure you bring your setting powder and oil blotting sheet everywhere you go.
