Mr. and Mrs. Holness In Parliament?

Information reaching Talk Jamaica Radio suggests that the wife of Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness, Mrs. Juliet Holness, may be seeking to be the Jamaica Labour Party’s standard bearer in East Rural St. Andrew when the next General Elections are called.

Our sources say Mrs. Holness made known her interest in the seat after Senator Alexander Williams abruptly tendered his resignation as the party’s caretaker in the constituency. East Rural St. Andrew has been plagued by uncertainty since the surprise dismissal of incumbent MP Damion Crawford by PNP delegates. The PNP leadership subsequently installed Imani Duncan Price as its candidate for the seat. Duncan-Price is the daughter of PNP veteran DK Duncan, and there had been questions about whether Williams could defeat her at the polls.

Should Mrs. Holness be successful in her bid to be named candidate and ultimately represent the constituency, it would be the second time in Jamaica’s political history that a husband and wife sit together in the House of Representatives. Talk Jamaica will continue to monitor this developing story.
