PNP President Postpones Run Off In North East St. Elizabeth
PNP President and Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, has postponed the run off between first term MP, Raymond Pryce and his challenger, St. Elizabeth businessman Evon Redman.
In a letter to key functionaries in the governing party, including campaign director Dr. Peter Phillips, the PNP General Secretary, Paul Burke, revealed that Mrs. Simpson Miller has instructed that the run off be postponed until Saturday September 12, 2015. Mr. Burke says Mrs. Simpson Miller wished to assure the delegates that they will have the opportunity to make their choice, and that no further postponements will occur. No reason was given for the decision. However, the situation in the constituency has been tense as both sides trade accusations of intimidation and threats. Mr. Redman’s tyres were allegedly slashed, while Mr. Pryce appears to have received threats.
North East St. Elizabeth is considered safe PNP territory; Raymond Pryce won the seat convincingly in the last general election.
